New Year’s Day on Bennachie

I hope everyone has recovered from their hangovers – Ian and I shared a bottle of ‘champagne’ and I was tanked after, literally, a single glass.  We also had chocolate Angel Delight – for any US readers, Angel Delight is a powder that you mix with milk to create a kind of light mousse type thing.  I think it’s amazing.

Then we watched the fireworks from my bedroom window:

And then we went to bed.

Despite getting a relatively early night and barely drinking any alcohol, I slept in until 11am.  It was blissful.  Because the sun was out, Ian suggested going for a walk up Bennachie, a range of hills about a 45 minute drive outside of Aberdeen.

We ended up arriving at the ridiculously busy car park around 1pm.  I have never seen Bennachie with so many people!  We eventually secured a parking space (with minor aggression) and set off.  As the sun sets around 3:30pm, I thought we’d only have time to do one top, but in the end we managed just over 6 miles and three tops:

We passed several people (and several dogs), most of whom said hello, and many of whom wished up Happy New Year.  There were still people ascending as Ian and I made our way back down to the parking lot, and we made it down about 20 minutes before sunset:

    • Ha ha, it’s only like 50 pence a packet. I would actually just buy a couple of packets and send them to you if you really wanted to experience the magic! 🙂
